Nature Nuts: Seeds

Preschoolers, ages 3-5, are invited to explore the wonderful world of seeds! A seed dispersal hike will be followed by a snack and story.

Wed. Bird Walk: 1st Day Hike

Get outdoors for your New Year’s Resolution and experience something new! Stretch your wings on a 1st Day Hike exploring River Preserve! The Preserve’s medley of wetlands, woodlands, canals, and open fields attract a number of seasonal specialties. From Horned Larks and Snow Buntings swirling over fields, to Bald Eagles and Rough-legged Hawks on the hunt, come see some of our county’s coolest winter birds.
The group will head out at 8 a.m. — please plan travel time accordingly.

What to Expect: Come prepared for a 3-mile hike.
Suggested Gear: Hiking boots and weather-ready layers.
Meet at: Benton Spillway in River Preserve County Park, located 1 mile south of U.S. 33 on C.R. 31. in Goshen (Directions here).

First Day Hike

Kick off 2025 with a little outdoor therapy on a first day hike through the crisp, winter landscape of Boot Lake Nature Preserve. Bring your friends and family to enjoy a stroll in the park as we celebrate the new year together.

Game Day at the Museum

Shake off the post-holiday blues with some games! Bring your appetite for life-size Hungry, Hungry Hippos, try your hand at giant Jenga, and more!

Note: Participants ages 9-14 must have waiver signed by their parent/guardian.

Learn & Burn

Give your brain and your body a workout with this hybrid program! Together we’ll learn about historical perspectives on personal fitness and the rise of physical culture in the late 1800s. Then, Barb Welty of Elkhart County Health Department will lead a historically inspired workout with fitness routines drawn straight from the turn of the 20ᵗʰ century.

Note: Upon arrival, all participants must sign a waiver before taking part in the class.

Feature Grain Day

Durum Wheat is the feature grain this month. Durum Wheat flour has a mild flavor and is great for making pasta. All feature grain days in 2024 will highlight a grain that is not a normal part of our line-up. The resulting flour/meal will be a LIMITED EDITION, product available for a short time. Make sure to attend to get yours before it’s gone. Grinding demonstrations of Durum Wheat will take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
