Dating to the 1870s, Oak Ridge Cemetery is the final resting place for thousands of Bristol residents. Join Museum staff for a tour of one of Bristol’s most important historical sites. Together we’ll learn about the history of the cemetery and several of the burials within.

As you stroll through the parks this time of year,

As you stroll through the parks this time of year, you might notice delicate, bell-shaped white flowers emerging from the ground. These are snowdrops, signaling that warmer weather is on the way! These unique flowers aren't just ordinary blooms; they contain special proteins that help them withstand freezing temperatures. Additionally, they produce an organic compound that’s used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease! So these small fragile flowers are not that small at all!

Fiddlesqueak! Mudbat! Bogsucker! Peent piper! No, these aren't just a bunch of made up curse words (OK, maybe one), but most are nicknames for the Timberdoodle, a tiny shorebird with a big personality.

While visiting any of our awesome parks, you might notice a pine tree. Indiana is home to several types of pine trees, but the common ones in our county parks are the Red and White Pines. You may want to know how to tell the difference between the two. First, look at their needle bundles: Red Pines have 2 needles per bundle, while White Pines have 5. You can easily remember this because the word 'white' is spelled with 5 letters, which matches the number of needles in a White Pine bundle. Second, look at the pine cones: White Pine cones are long, and Red Pine cones are short and stocky.
