*THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT* All ages are invited to discover the lifelong sport of fishing on this Free Fishing Weekend. Participants will learn the basics of fishing in the exceptional trout stream at Cobus Creek County Park. Then everyone will learn how to clean and fillet their catch.

Get ready for a summer of safe biking at the Bike Rodeo – a family event designed to teach safety skills to young bicyclists. Participants will learn new bike handling skills and practice techniques as they make their way through a series of stations. The riding course will offer young riders a fun place to practice bike handling and safety skills for real-world situations. Elkhart County Parks is excited to partner with the Elkhart County Health Department for this fun and educational program.

Please bring your own bike and gear to the event.

Stories of Elkhart: Middlebury’s Grace Lawn Cemetery

The oldest grave in Middlebury’s Grace Lawn Cemetery dates to 1834 and since that time many of the Middlebury’s residents have been laid to rest at Grace Lawn. Join us as the Elkhart County Historical Museum and the Middlebury Community Historical Museum partner together to interpret the history of Middlebury as you explore the cemetery.

Join the Hiking Club and learn about the abundant trails and amenities offered by the Elkhart County Parks. Hiking Club meets on the third Tuesday of every month unless otherwise noted. Each month Hiking Club meets at a different location and experiences a new trail. Sign up once and enjoy the entire 2019 schedule of hikes. In June we will hike a section of the Pumkinvine Nature Trail.This trail is 3.2 miles in length. The terrain is mostly flat.

Recycling Center Tour

– SOLD OUT – Nature’s Wood Products has been newly reconstructed with a new location, new machinery, and even a new name, Tri-Power Recycling. Join Elkhart County Parks as they partner with the newly renovated facility for a tour of their multiple recycling processes. Tri-power recycles plastic, cardboard, styrofoam, and more. During the tour, attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look at what happens to each material after drop off.

One of nature’s most unique habitats lies right here in our back yard. Leiber bog, also called Pipewort Pond, is host to some of Indiana’s rarest species. Pitcher and sundew plants, beavers, Sandhill Cranes, and other rare waterfowl make their home at this nature preserve. Experience a bog close up and walk on ground that feels more like a waterbed than dry land! Please wear boots and come prepared for a two hour hike. Meet at the Elkhart County Historical Museum in Bristol, IN.

In June the focus is on Scottish oats. Come and see the entire progression of unprocessed oat groats through finished baked products.
