Winter Walking Club
During January and February, join a weekly winter walking group and enjoy the benefits of fresh air, friendly faces and staying active. Each week, we’ll meet and hike at a different park location. Layers are best in winter, so please dress appropriately

Wed. Bird Walk: Waterfowl Watch
This month, we’re dabbling in ducks as waterfowl season kicks into high gear. On a good day, more than 30 of these water-loving birds can be seen – from elegant pintails and loons to iridescent Buffleheads and Teals. Bundle up and join fellow bird lovers for a winter outing seeking out our county’s dazzling ducks at local waterfowl hotspot, Fidler Pond in Goshen (Directions Here). The group will head out at 8 a.m. — please plan travel time accordingly.
- What to Expect: Come prepared for extended time outdoors.
- Suggested Gear: Hiking boots and weather-ready layers (binoculars will be available tor use).

Bat House Workshop
Now is an excellent time to prepare your landscape for our only flying mammal. Bats are very beneficial insectivores and can be attracted to your property by installing a bat house. All materials will be provided to build your own bat house at this workshop and tips will be given on how and where to place it on your property. Don’t miss out on this chance to help the local populations in your neck of the woods.

Our Waters Exhibit Opening
Explore our county’s most valuable natural resource – its waters – at the official opening of the newest exhibit at the Elkhart County Historical Museum. Our Waters blends history, science, and art to show how the waters of our county have the power to move, sustain, adapt, and inspire hope. Play with interactive activities, participate in a discussion with a curator, and enjoy light refreshments as you explore this unique exhibit.

Yoga in the Museum
Flow with history during this all-levels guided yoga class. Certified teacher Amanda of Innate Yoga will lead us through an empowering practice in the Museum’s gallery space. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats and water bottles. A limited number of mats will be available for use.

Books & Boots
The Elkhart Public Library has teamed up with the Elkhart County Parks to offer a book club for kids! Each meeting will include a book discussion followed by a park-led activity exploring one of the book’s environmental themes. Activities could include hikes, live animals, and more.

Chickadee House Workshop
Create your very own nest box for a few of our smaller cavity nesting birds, the Chickadees, House Wrens and even some Warblers. With an entrance hole of 1 3/8 inches, this box is designed to keep the larger House Sparrows and Starlings away. Please bring a battery-powered drill with you. All other materials will be provided along with tips on where to place the box on your property for success.

Backyard Maple Sugaring
Participants at this program will learn the art of turning maple sap into sweet golden maple syrup. The entire process from beginning to end will be demonstrated at this lecture-style program. Tree tapping will be demonstrated and maple tapping equipment will be available for purchase. Best of all, there will be pancakes and pure maple syrup served for all in attendance to enjoy! Make sure to bring your appetite. This program includes some outdoor segments and participants should be prepared for the weather.
