Gene Stratton-Porter Day

Indiana’s own Gene Stratton-Porter has inspired generations as an author, nature photographer, and conservationist. Gene herself found inspiration in Indiana’s native flora and fauna. On September 8, 1914, she paid a visit to the Elkhart River flats for botanical study. Join us as we mark the 110th anniversary of this trip and celebrate the life of Gene Stratton-Porter at beautiful DeFries Gardens. Participants will have the opportunity to observe and document the natural world around them, and let it inspire their own creativity. Bring along your sketchbook, notepad, or camera, and be prepared for outdoor conditions such as bugs, high grass, or wet river banks.
